Aksharabhyasa (also spelled Aksharabyasam, Vidyarambham, or Haate Khori) is a traditional Hindu ritual marking the beginning of a child's formal education. The term comes from Sanskrit:

  • Akshara = "letter"

  • Abhyasa = "practice"

It literally means “practice of letters” and is usually performed when a child is around 2.5 to 5 years old, symbolizing their first step toward knowledge and learning.
